Hopefully this profile will do two things.  It will show how I perceive my own health and my part in protecting it.  It will also say how my connection with others plays a major role in keeping me healthy.

Offering myself time, space, compassion and the possibility of choice helps me take a more proactive role in my healing and informs my Shiatsu.

....  Through Karate and Aikido I discovered some of the ways in which people reveal themselves.  Too eager to attack, too reserved in joining a flow, light-hearted or serious, it all made a difference to the overall experience.

Sometimes my Aikido partner’s mood would resonate with me so strongly that I would unconsciously become like them: too reserved some sessions and too aggressive in others. 

... I started to meditate and do yoga and qi-gong to improve the clarity of my relationship with my body.  Karate and Aikido had taught me about feeling my centre – my one point or Tan t’ien – but I wanted to extend that sense to the whole.

There is one particular Aikido class that affected me deeply.  Because of my Karate training the instructor often asked me to demonstrate with him as I was happy to attack him with commitment.  On this one occasion rather than just showing the technique once or twice we continued for quite a long time, me attacking, him throwing me.  Each attack had more determination to grasp him, each throw had more ease and grace about it and the throw more powerful.  At the end of the demonstration I was soaking wet with sweat and he was smiling broadly.  The other students were amazed that I was, at times, shoulder height in the air, apparently landing from a great height but I would get up full of energy to attack again.  It taught me a great lesson.  Commitment to our chosen path can enliven, invigorate and feed us.  I felt so full of energy that my whole body (even though I felt a bit nauseous) was buzzing and glowing.  What I gave out I got back, but seemingly amplified.  I felt fantastic.
